IR Thermography Applied to the Cultural Heritage Conservation
نویسنده
چکیده
Extended Abstract Thermal non-destructive testing is more and more applied even in the field of cultural heritage conservation. The main reason is the capability of inspecting large surfaces without any contact or damage. A large number of testing procedures and processing algorithms allows reaching reliable results both in laboratory or in situ. Well established or innovative techniques are based on the analysis of the thermal process during the quasi-steady or the transient regime. IR thermography may be applied qualitatively or under advanced processing, accordingly to particular demands. The quantitative use of thermography allows an effective investigation of the decay and identification of the causes of the material weakness. Furthermore, the knowledge of the hidden history of the monument is enhanced by a view in the IR. Thermal Non Destructive Testing could analyse different works of art and decay forms. Results given for the following case study are illustrated: fresco detachment sizing, classification and visualization of the building materials below the finishing layer, structural cracks identification for the seismic risk evaluation, monitor of the moisture of structures.

Optimal thermographic procedures for moisture analysis in buildings materials
The presence of moisture in building materials causes damage second only to structural one. NDT are successfully applied to map moisture distribution, to localise the source of water and to determine microclimatic conditions. IR Thermography has the advantage of non-destructive testing while it allows to investigate large surfaces. The measures can be repeated in time to monitor the phenomenon ...

This paper aims to study and review structural changes of Cultural Heritage Organization of Iran which were made by important cultural, social, political, and economic changes and events of Iran and have a significant role in the process of making policies and plans for conservation...
متن کاملMultispectral Applications of Infrared Thermography in the Diagnosis and Protection of Built Cultural Heritage
Infrared thermography (IRT) is a powerful non contact imaging technique, appropriate for the protection of cultural heritage. The National Technical University of Athens research team (scientist responsible: A. Moropoulou), started to use this technique in the early 1990s, in all stages of a conservation project, from decay diagnosis to assessment of conservation interventions and monitoring. T...

The concept of integrity, as a factor of sustaining values and significance of cultural heritage, is considered to be a key element in the process of urban heritage conservation. Review and analysis of documents, conventions and theories concerning the role of integrity in urban heritage conservation shows that in recent decades, the concept of integrity has attracted attention worldwide in the...
متن کاملPulsed Thermography Applied to the Study of Cultural Heritage
In this paper, an overview of the recent applications of pulsed infrared thermography is presented. Pulsed infrared thermography, which provides stratigraphic information by analyzing the heat diffusion process within the sample after a thermal perturbation, is applied to the investigation of different kinds of cultural heritage artefacts. In particular, it is used to analyze repairs, decorativ...
